Finnish transport and communications regulator Traficom has published a 30-page document concerning AI-enabled cyberattacks. It predicts that AI-enabled attacks will likely become more widespread among less skilled attackers in the next five years, adding that the cybersecurity industry will need to adapt to stay ahead of such malicious efforts. Furthermore, according to Traficom, biometric authentication methods may become obsolete because of advanced impersonation techniques enabled by AI.
If Traficom’s prediction is accurate, this could be a very concerning development, given the increased importance placed on biometrics for identity verification in places such as Ghana and the EU, as well as for mobile device security. However, since Traficom tempers their prediction, the possibility of biometrics becoming obsolete should currently be considered as just that: a possibility.
