Vodafone Mobile Device Management Service For Businesses

U.K. mobile operator Vodafone has launched a new service called Total Managed Mobility (TMM). The service, which is a mobile device management solution, has been developed to provide large businesses and public-sector entities with the ability to manage both the mobile devices used by their employees and the operating systems on which these devices run. According to the operator’s press release, the solution’s flexibility simplifies device management and enables greater control of costs because its customizable features allow businesses and organizations to use the same solution to manage devices even as users switch brands or upgrade to higher-end models. The TMM service is able to interact with back-end security options, such as those offered by BlackBerry, Good for Enterprise and Vodafone’s own Secure Device Manager, which is powered by Airwatch. Organizations can deploy the TMM service via the cloud, a dedicated hosting site or on their own premises.

Mobile device management encompasses a variety of products and services that businesses or organizations use to support mobile phone or tablet applications that are used by employees for conducting business. In BYOD workforces, it is important for businesses to account for employees’ mobile device use—for example, for reasons of expense management—as well as to provide mobile security for the devices. In many cases, mobile device management solutions are offered through software developers. As operators continue to look for ways to drive revenue from non-traditional sources, Vodafone’s ability to competitively price its own mobile device management service could bring the operator into this market and become a new source of revenue. We believe it is smart for the MNO to offer this solution, not only to its already-established business customer base but also to new users. Such a service may be key in bringing more business customers to Vodafone for their telecommunications needs.
