Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar has introduced an offer for prepaid subscribers in the country’s Luhansk and Donetsk regions. On-net calls and mobile internet services are accessible free of charge, even if a customer has no airtime balance, valid through 31 December 2014. The offer can be activated by dialing 929. New subscribers need to top-up at least UAH 25 (US $1.95) in order to take advantage of the offer.
Kyivstar’s generous deal is intended to remedy the difficulties customers have been having lately in obtaining top-ups in the easternmost regions of Ukraine, where the Russian-backed armed insurgency is taking place. The operator’s response to the political and economic instability there is a sensitive one and is likely to prove a significant aid in retaining as many prepaid customers as possible under the present trying and chaotic circumstances.
